12 Days of Cookies: Jammy Cranberry Thumbprint Cookies πŸ₯‚ (Day 9!)

Hi Reader!

Jammy Cranberry
Thumbprint Cookies

Why We Love Them

These jewel-toned cookies are the ultimate holiday cookie from the color and flavor to the dusting of snow (aka confectioners' sugar).

Can We Ship 'Em?

This is not a great cookie to ship. These are best assembled just prior to serving.

Make-Ahead Options

Yep!

Several Days in Advance...

The whole cookie base, start-to-finish, can be made and stored in an airtight container at room temperature for several days.

The cranberry sauce can be made up to one week in advance and stored in the fridge in an airtight container.

Always assemble this cookie just prior to serving.

Several Weeks in Advance...

You can freeze this cookie dough as dough balls or as a larger mass of dough, your choice.

If you freeze dough balls, set them on the prepared baking sheet and bake once they are at or close to room temperature.

If you freeze the entire mass of dough, you'll want to defrost in the fridge overnight and then move to the kitchen counter to finish defrosting.

Once it's closer to room temperature, pick up with instruction #3 and finish your cookies.

More Tips

  1. Jazz Hands. The cookies are pretty as is or add: drizzles of vanilla glaze, candied orange peel or a sprinkle of fresh orange zest. I have instructions for candied citrus peel on this Lemon Cake post (it uses lemon, but you can use orange peel in its place).
  2. Chinese Five-Spice Powder. I love it in holiday desserts! If you don't have any, feel free to substitute 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
  3. Bread Flour. You can replace the bread flour with all-purpose flour in a pinch, 1:1. You'll lose some thickness and chewiness of the cookie when you do this, but they will still be yummy!
  4. To Serve. Assemble the cookies just prior to serving (day of). Do not stack the cookies as the jammy cranberries will make a mess.

Have fun with these!!

As always, leave any questions, comments, recipe notes on the actual recipe post and I'll respond asap. πŸ’—

Happy baking!!

Hi Reader! ✨A quick recipe note: this pimento cheese version is a touch different than the one I sent out in the newsletter a few weeks back. And obviously, I like this one even better! ✨ I love dips, full stop. When we were eating Pimento Cheese on a rooftop bar at Stella's graduation, I said, "I love dips so much. I could make myself sick eating them." Stella replied, "That's the most American thing you've ever said." As a people, we love a good dip. I feel lucky enough to live in an area...

Hi Reader! Imagine sinking your teeth into a rich, chocolate cookie crust, topped with layers of smooth, creamy vanilla and strawberry ice cream. This Neapolitan dream doesn't stop there – it's crowned with decadent chocolate magic shell ✨, a generous pile of freshly whipped cream and a vibrant heap of fresh berries. It's the perfect make-head dessert with only a wee 10-minute bake in the oven for the crust. I love Neapolitan anything and I'm hoping you'll love this effortless, creamy...

Hi Reader! Before you panic that I'm requesting you do something (anything!) hot right now, give me a minute to explain myself. I've been making some version of this Strawberry Jam for forever! Let me give you some of its very strong selling points: It requires zero canning equipment Needs no pectin! Fruit naturally has pectin and the trio of strawberries, apple & lemon, coupled with the sugar, thickens it perfectly! Uses only four ingredients (five if you want jazz handsπŸ‘‹πŸΌ): 3 pints...
